We support international patients and their families, make their stay as easy and as comfortable as possible, while reducing stress and worries.

Support for international patients

While patients focus on their health and treatment in hospital, our international patient coordinators will ensure both patients and family members receive information and support.

We understand that visiting hospital can be a worrying time, and can be especially stressful for those travelling from overseas. However, with our support, you don't need to worry, as we are here to help - as if you were a family member of our own.

Our international patient coordinators can advise on, or arrange:

  • appropriate specialists or consultants for your needs
  • booking appointments
  • admission to the hospital
  • financial matters - through liaison with embassies, international insurance companies and other organisations.

Fluent in Arabic, the officers will answer questions and support patients and their family members.

Our international patient coordinators are available on-site at Royal Brompton Hospital from Monday to Friday. They are also on call for urgent queries, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Language needs and interpretation

It is vital for patients and their families to be able to communicate with staff, understand their treatment, and be able to ask questions.

Therefore, our team of international patient coordinators are fluent in Arabic. If other languages are required, we make sure that a professional interpreter is present.

In addition, many of our consultants speak languages other than English. You can also search our consultant directory to find a consultant who speaks a particular language.

If patients are having a CT scan as part of their care, our modern machines have audio recordings in a number of languages including Arabic.

Faith and religion

At Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, we provide a number of facilities and services to support your religious needs:

Multi-faith prayer room

Our multi-faith prayer rooms allow people of all religions and backgrounds a private and quiet place to pray or contemplate at your own convenient time. The space is equipped with a room divider and prayer mats.

The chapels at each hospital provide a quiet and tranquil space, away from the wards, for use by all. Each week, there are services and prayers held in the chapel for Christians or Muslims who wish to attend.

At our hospitals, we are pleased to support the religious and spiritual needs of our patients, their relatives and friends. Our chaplaincy team can visit the ward to provide pastoral support and information, listen in confidentiality, pray if requested, or to arrange the appropriate faith leader to visit.

We have a dedicated catering service who prepare meals on each inpatient ward at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals.

The menu is translated into Arabic and always includes vegetarian and heart-healthy options to choose from. We are pleased to provide Halal and Kosher meals, and will cater to special requests whenever we can.

Newspapers and TV

In order to make your stay as comfortable as possible, we provide televisions in our private rooms, screening both domestic and international channels.

Every day we offer patients a complimentary newspaper, including a range of international titles.
