Established in 1915, our hospital is world-renowned for treating some of the most complex patient cases, including the implantation of ventricular assist devices or ‘artificial hearts’ that are used in cases of extreme heart failure.
Our hospital is also home to Europe’s first successful double heart and lung transplant and remains one of the top centres in the world for these transplant procedures.

Harefield Private Consulting Rooms
Private outpatients can see our experts in heart, lung and sleep medicine at our dedicated outpatient unit.
We also offer a full range of private imaging services and investigations, including:
- MRI scans (heart and general assessment)
- CT scans (heart, lung and general assessment)
- echocardiography (transthoracic, stress and contrast enhanced)
- non-invasive cardiology, including cardiac monitoring, exercise tolerance tests and ECG
Juniper Ward
Our private heart and lung inpatient ward has 16 spacious single-occupancy, en-suite rooms.
Patients requiring treatment benefit from 5 operating theatres and 4 catheter laboratories, as well as a dedicated high-dependency unit and intensive therapy unit staffed by our expert medical team 24-hours a day.
Places to eat
You can have a snack at the friendly Pavilion run by the League of Friends. If preferred, you can have a meal at Harefield Hospital’s restaurant, The Hungry Hare. This is located opposite the main entrance, below the concert hall.

Harefield Private Consulting Rooms
Our outpatients and diagnostic testing service at Harefield Hospital is open from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6pm.
To make things easier for you, we can schedule consultations and multiple tests on the same day, at the same location.
Juniper Ward visiting times
Friends and family are welcome to visit 7 days a week, between 10am and 9pm. There is a rest period for patients between 1pm and 2pm. During this period, the ward is closed to visitors.
Juniper Ward’s high dependency unit (HDU) welcomes visitors from 2pm to 9pm, with a restriction on the number of visitors.

Rail
Trains run from London Marylebone to Denham railway station (2.6 miles away). From there, you can take a 5-minute taxi ride to the hospital (book it in advance), or catch a bus (see below).
London Underground
The nearest tube stations are Uxbridge (4.8 miles away), Northwood (3.6 miles away) and Rickmansworth (3.7 miles away). From there, you can take a 10 to 20-minute taxi ride to the hospital, or take a bus (see below).
Bus
From Uxbridge:
Take bus number U9 towards Harefield Hospital. This is the most convenient bus route, as it stops at the hospital itself.
From Denham or Uxbridge:
Take bus number 331 towards Northwood and Ruislip. Get off at the ‘Harefield High Street’ bus stop, which is 5 minutes’ walk from the hospital.
From Rickmansworth:
Take bus number R2 to Harefield Hospital. Note: this service is Monday to Friday service only, with an infrequent service – see the R2 bus timetable.
From Northwood:
Take the bus number 331 towards Uxbridge. Get off at the ‘Harefield High Street’ bus stop, which is 5 minutes’ walk from the hospital.

From London or Oxford:
- From the A40, take the B467 exit – signposted ‘Uxbridge, Harefield, Ickenham’
- Follow directions from Swakeleys roundabout (see below).
From the M1 (Milton Keynes or Luton):
- Follow the M1. At junction 6A, join the M25 motorway – signposted ‘M40/Heathrow Airport’.
- At junction 16, join the M40 eastwards – signposted ‘Uxbridge/London’.
- Take the B467 exit – signposted ‘Uxbridge, Harefield, Ickenham’.
- Follow directions from Swakeleys roundabout (see below).
From the M25:
- At junction 16, join the M40 eastwards – signposted ‘Uxbridge/London’.
- Take the B467 exit – signposted ‘Uxbridge, Harefield, Ickenham’.
- Follow directions from Swakeleys roundabout (see below).
From Uxbridge:
- Take the B483 northwards and continue to the junction with the A40.
- Follow directions from Swakeleys roundabout (see below).
From Swakeleys roundabout:
- Take the exit onto B467 Swakeleys Road, signposted to Harefield.
- After half a mile you will reach a mini-roundabout. Turn left onto Harvil Road.
- Continue ahead through the countryside for about three miles until you reach Harefield High Street.
- Drive through the centre of Harefield village, passing the Kings Arms public house and Harefield Health Centre on your left.
- The hospital’s front entrance is about 400 metres on the left.
- Park your car in the hospital grounds.
When you enter the hospital grounds, the patients and visitors’ car park is on the right-hand side. The car park is managed by NCP and operates on a ‘pay and display’ system. Daily charges are displayed at pay points in the car parks and are in line with charges at other NHS hospitals. Charges apply from Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays. The machine only accepts coins, so please bring enough change.
There is no charge for vehicles clearly displaying a valid disabled badge.
Harefield Hospital is not situated inside London’s Congestion Charge or ULEZ zones. However, we advise you to check the Transport for London website, including exemptions from charges, to see if any charges will affect your journey to or from our hospital.
